leaving the Caribbean for the heart of Yucatan On the Monday we left the beach for the road. We rented a car (and what a car!!) from Car Rental Executive, a local company we had been recommended by the people from our first hotel. We left in the morning with our newly arrived luggage (about time too) for Valladolid, about 160km west of Playa. So we took Highway 307 towards Tulum first, then forked north-west towards Valladolid. Recommended: La Chispa, a nice, relaxed place half covered, half open-air so you can listen to the music and have a drink while contemplating the stars in the sky. |
our road trip - Valladolid |
A good restaurant in Valladolid: Las Campanas, on the main square, nice food, nice decor, noisy singer (!) and 10€ for a meal for two!! |

the start of our road trip, the road towards Valladolid looked pretty much like that the whole way, not the most exciting part of our trip
the main square in Valladolid: el Parque Francisco Canton Rosado - l'arrivée à Valladolid, vue de la place principale: Parque Francisco Canton Rosado
this is a street in Valladolid, quite typical with all its coloured facades, unfortunately the colour of the sky does not do it justice
a drink at our hotel bar, overlooking the main square
what do you mean we're both red as lobsters?? what purple?? no luggage, no sun screen... too many margharitas on the beach... no good
the pool in our hotel, Hotel Maria de la Luz, 30€/night for a large and airy room with TV and swimming-pool
a very nice old colonial-type atmosphere, you almost expected old jazz tunes to come up from the restaurant walking down its rather majestuous stairs
Paul's typical Mexican breakfast of huevos (eggs), tomates (tomatoes), cebollas (onions), tortillas and fried beans in the market hall, scrumptious and cheap
one last vision of Valladolid, its beautiful Cathedral in the morning sun
